Rosalind Koons' lunchtime lecture was inspiring and eye-opening. What stood out most to me was the deeply personal and emotional connection she has with her work. I really like that way she incorporates her experience with chronic illness into her sculptures, giving her art a powerful, human layer that goes far beyond aesthetics, in an expressive way.

Her use of low-cost, accessible materials also really shifted my thinking about what “fine art” means. She emphasized that meaningful work doesn’t require expensive materials, just thoughtful experimentation and personal connection. It was really interesting to see her process and visual demonstration of sculptural techniques—from foam carving to her unique paper pulp mixture— it was practical, especially for young artists who might feel limited by budget or resources.

Overall, her artwork rally appealed to me because of all the beautiful colors, forms, and unique materials. HEr ability to turn isolation and difficulty into world-building and creative energy was also deeply motivating. It reminded me that art isn’t just about the final product; it’s also about the process, and how making can help us reflect and express our lived experiences.
