Artist Statement and Background:
Nicole's paintings explore the idea of “gray areas” in human relationships and identity. She uses fractured or fragmented imagery to represent the complexity of human experience, compromise, and empathy. Her work often focuses on the human figure and the idea of people moving through time and space while forming and losing connections with others.
Nicole is currently represented by D. Anthony Gallery in Wausau, WI, and is an art educator at Syracuse High School, Syracuse Utah. She had two pieces in the 16th Arc, Art Renewal Center Salon as a finalist and a semi-finalist. She has been a finalist in National and International exhibitions such as the International Biennial Portrait Competition receiving an Honorable Mention, and the Annual National Portrait Competition.

Reaction to the Artist’s Work
One thing I find interesting about Nicole Bishop’s work is how she fragments the human figure into geometric shapes and planes. Even though the figures are broken into pieces, they still look really realistic. The way she blends realism with abstraction makes the paintings feel emotional and thoughtful rather than purely technical.
I also like how her work focuses on the human figure and relationships between people. In many of her paintings, the figures appear to overlap or interact in ways that suggest movement, memory, or connection. This idea could influence my own work because I often paint figures and portraits, and it makes me think about how composition and overlapping shapes can communicate tension and emotion.
