I worked on my "head" theme project, focusing on the idea of appearance. I chose to use charcoal pencil—a material I really enjoyed during Art 3—because I feel confident and comfortable working with it. Overall, the process went smoothly, aside from a few broken pencils. Working from home made me realize the disadvantage of having limited access to high-quality materials. I had to use grocery store pencils and blend with a tissue, which was a noticeable difference from the tools available in class. The most challenging part of the project was capturing photo references that matched the concept I envisioned. I wanted to create an image of a girl (myself) holding a mirror and looking through it, but I struggled to find a camera angle that included the hand, figure, and mirror reflection all at once. As a result, I took separate photos of each part and used my imagination to piece them together. Despite the challenges, I’m happy with how the final piece turned out.
